Far from concluding with GDPR, this regulatory regime is becoming a dynamic launchpad toward more agile, adaptive frameworks, preparing firms for the next evolution in tech compliance.

At the same time, the EU’s Data Act (effective September 2025) and Digital Services Act are reshaping rules around connected devices and data sharing, mandating fair, transparent agreements and metadata access from IoT providers.

To stay ahead, executives should integrate regulatory foresight into strategy. That means actively contributing to consultations (e.g., EU Commission, ICO), adopting horizon scanning and scenario‑planning, and tracking guidance from key bodies such as the European Data Protection Board  (EDPB), ICO and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD’s) AI Working Group. This proactive posture doesn’t just ensure compliance, it cultivates a future‑ready organisation, able to pivot swiftly as laws evolve.
