Artificial intelligence throws up a plethora of legal and compliance challenges as its use becomes more prominent in businesses, but with the huge benefits AI technology presents, managing these challenges is a necessity.
Mateo Jarrin Cuvi of the AGRC, will be joined by Charles Kerrigan of CMS, Boriana Guimberteau of Stephenson Harwood and Luis Parra of Complyport to address critical issues in AI regulation, legal implications for digital assets, and the evolving landscape of IP rights. Our speakers will also explore AI’s impact on legal practice, advancements in RegTech, the transformation of regulatory compliance through cognitive learning and advanced analytics, as well as automating in compliance management.

Mateo Jarrin Cuvi | Global Manager for Partners & Media | Association of Governance, Risk & Compliance
During his 20-year career, Mateo Jarrin Cuvi has played important roles in a wide array of industries, eventually landing in the financial services sector where he has focused on content creation and management and business writing geared towards the financial services industry. After dabbling in the oil and gas field, managing media relations for the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington DC, and working as a program manager for a Cypriot study abroad firm, Mateo served as Content Manager for Taxlinked, an international network for tax and law professionals, and Content Writer for FXPRIMUS, a Forex broker with a strong presence in southeast Asia. Today, he leads the charge for the Association of Governance, Risk & Compliance (AGRC) as Global Manager for Partners and Media, establishing strategic partnerships, promoting the association’s work, and liaising with members and partner organisations. Mateo holds BAs in Foreign Affairs and Latin American Studies from the University of Virginia (UVA) and an MA in Latin American Studies with a focus on Sociology and Anthropology from the University of California in San Diego (UCSD). Plus, he’s a journalist and writer who has published fiction, food and wine articles, financial content, and other travel-related pieces in several local and global publications.
Charles Kerrigan | Partner | CMS
Charles is partner at international law firm CMS. He is a specialist in emerging technologies, including digital assets and AI. He works on corporate finance and venture capital transactions in crypto, tokenisation and AI. He works on consulting projects on blockchain and AI for public bodies, policy makers, standards institutions and corporations. He is author of: Global Legal Insights – AI, Machine Learning & Big Data (Global Legal Group, 2022); Artificial Intelligence Law and Regulation (Edward Elgar, 2022); and other books and he has been published many times in newspapers. He is a Board Advisor of Holistic AI (https://www.holisticai.com) and AI & Partners (https://www.ai-and-partners.com). He sits on the Advisory board of the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence (APPG AI). He is an expert consultant to the UNCITRAL UNIDROIT group on legal issues related to the digital economy.
Boriana Guimberteau | Partner | Stephenson Harwood
Boriana Guimberteau is a partner in the Paris office of the law firm Stephenson Harwood where she heads the Intellectual Property practice. She has strong experience in the full spectrum of IP rights with a focus on trademarks and unfair competition. She regularly acts before the specialised French and European jurisdictions and offices. Her expertise also covers non-traditional trademarks and copyright issues, and innovative technologies like blockchain and NFTs. Boriana started her career as in-house counsel at LVMH (Perfumery division). Before joining Stephenson Harwood, she spent 17 years with the French firm FTPA co-heading the IP department. Boriana is a member of INTA’s Brands & Innovation Committee and was once again recognised by the most recent World Trademark Review’s WTR 1000 for her prosecution and enforcement work.
Luis Parra | Director of Regulatory Business Solutions | Complyport
Luis is Complyport’s Director of Regulatory Business Solutions and the Managing Director of Complyport’s RegTech solution, ComplyPortal – designed and built to automate and simplify our client’s ability to meet their regulatory obligations. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of ComplyPortal and oversees the delivery of ComplyPortal’s compliance management software solutions to clients, ensuring their compliance processes and frameworks are streamlined, easy to manage and secure. Specifically, the modules Luis uses to assist firms with include compliance & risk monitoring, keeping track of important documents, policies, and procedures that are the heart of a good Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance cycle. Luis has previously worked for a Fortune Global 500 company delivering document management solutions for legal and compliance needs. His work focused on creating efficiency and increased insight to information locked in unstructured data sources such as contracts and other records. His experience with change management has helped him lead efforts to establish and implement best practices within legal and compliance service areas, enabling clients to adopt technology into their current processes. Luis has facilitated clients to employ advanced technology tools, including cognitive learning, advanced analytics, and automation tools. This has aided clients to manage through mountains of data for a variety of tasks, such as: research, investigation, compliance and data or document management efforts. He attended Loyola Marymount University and holds a B.A. in Business Administration and attended the MBA program at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School in Los Angeles.
